Why Firewood Costs More This Year (and Why It Didn't Go Up More)
This season, a delivered load of mixed hardwood from White Cross Firewood costs $500: $450 for approximately one cord of wood, plus $50 delivery anywhere within 50 miles of Rogersville. Last season the same load was $400 ($350 plus $50 delivery). That's a 25% increase, and we want to be straight with you about why.
Diesel is the biggest reason
Firewood runs on diesel. The machines that cut and split it and the truck that hauls it to your driveway all burn it, and diesel has had a rough year. The U.S. average price for on-highway diesel was $3.75 a gallon in September 2025. In September 2026 it was $6.29, up 68% in a single year.
Groceries haven't held still either. Ground beef averaged $6.32 a pound nationally in September 2025 and $6.92 in August 2026, about a 9% increase. Over five years the gap is even wider: since fall 2021, ground beef is up 54% and diesel is up 86%.

We raised our price less than half as much as diesel
Our delivered price went up 25%. Our fuel went up 68%. We've kept the increase well under what it costs us to run equipment and trucks, and we'd rather tell you that plainly than quietly shrink the load.
What you get for $450
Approximately one cord of mixed hardwood, primarily oak and ash.
Your choice of piece length. Tell us at checkout, or leave it blank for our standard cut.
Loose-thrown into the trailer, not stacked, so each load can run a little over or under. We aim for at least a full cord every time.
